Des Sharples is a staple of the Manchester comedy scene, as well as further afield. His immense
likeability and affable nature on=stage endears him to the crowd immediately as he takes them
on a comedy journey of observations and stories guaranteed to bring laughter to the stoniest of
crowds.
His comedy experience speaks volumes: Des was winner of Take The Mic series 1 in 2001,
runner up in the City Life Comedian of the Year competition in 2002 and a finalist in the
J20 Comedy Search competition.
He has appeared at numerous comedy festivals; Edinburgh, Leicester, Liverpool, Ludlow and Manchester,
and also on several television programmes, including Take The Mic (ITV), Made in the
Northwest (ITV), Running Late (BBC2) and The Guide (Channel M).
Des has had several acting roles in other TV programmes; Cops series 3 (BBC2), Phoenix
Nights (Channel 4), Linda Green (BBC1), Stan the Man (ITV), Buried
(Channel 4), Strumpet (BBC2) and No Angels (Channel 4).
Radio work includes Spanking New (BBC Radio 7), BBC GMR and Radio Revolution.
He runs and is resident MC at the weekly comedy night Mirth on Monday at The Iguana Bar in
Chorlton, was former booker and organiser at
The Comedy Balloon at The
Briton's Protection, Manchester, and was co-organiser of both Stand-Up 100 and
Stand-Up 150 at The Dancehouse
Theatre (both world record attempts at the biggest number of comedians on one stage in one
night).
"Sharples has that indescribable 'star quality' that separates the jobbing comedians from the
naturals. Charismatic, confident and effortless, Sharples electrifies the room like a human Van
der Graaf generator - instantly raising the energy and keeping the momentum going throughout his
unfailingly fast and funny set.
"The punchlines keep rolling in this lively routine that mixed topical, personal and observational
styles into a most impressive whole. And he has the most brilliant execution, utterly suckering
the audience before unveiling the unexpected pay-off. One of the north-west's more promising
talents." - Chortle.co.uk
