Stewart Spaull's humour has been described as 'cerebral' by both punters and peers. "But,"
says Spaull, "I have a few knob gags as well."
The Chesterfield comic started out back in November 2001, gigging sporadically - first as
a character called Brockley Spears, which stemmed from his abhorrence of all forms of pop
music. Being far too hairy to be believable as a woman, he soon dispensed with the black
dress, blonde wig, shades and white patent-leather boots, and moved into observational
comedy.
In October 2002 he took a nine-month break only to re-emerge in June 2003, having given
birth to some healthy, bouncing one-liners.
As Stewart explains, "I deliver a stream of one-liners on a range of subjects as diverse
as pool-playing and serial killing - in a deadpan fashion. Since my debut at XS Malarkey,
I've played most of the venues on the Manchester scene - including The Buzz and The Comedy
Store - but have also spread my wings to perform at such exotic locations as Sheffield,
Bolton and Blackburn. I am also a regular at Manchester's Comedy Balloon."
"Well thought out punful one-liners ... close to the bone humour." -
