John Thorp opened his front door and walked into the 'scene' of local comedy in early 2008, driven by a frightening edge of potential delusion and a desire to spend a Saturday evening in which he wasn't forced to endure the sound of intercourse through the unacceptably thin walls of his flat at the time.
Perhaps not befitting his silly, combed over hair, and usual cardigan clad demeanour, John picks his comedy targets, sneaks carefully up behind them and swiftly whacks them over the head with a big oar.
But behind his crystal blue, almost ethereal eyes, lies a sensitive soul in a timeless battle with a sharp, judgemental mind - a genuine left field way of thinking, often laced in quiet pathos. He has been called pathotic. Watching John discuss the attempted burgulars who jettisoned a turd in his backyard, or the first pornography he ever witnessed, is funny on one hand, funny as poo and cocks are, but beyond that... One innocent young man, his career, prospects and audience lain ahead of him, struggling to work what is a relatively simple mic stand.
John frequently gigs in and around Manchester, but also further afield. He is currently the resident MC at the notorious 'Beyond a Joke' night in Manchester. He also writes things, freelance for magazines and websites and that sort of jazz, and is involved in a development project at a major production company.
Winner of nothing.
